Subliminal hypnosis CDs are the hottest items on the internet today. They make some remarkable claims, but sometimes they don’t really explain to you how they work. How do they work? For that matter, do they work? Are they safe or can they be dangerous?

You probably have a vague idea about hypnosis, but unless you have been to a clinical hypnotist, it’s probably a mistaken idea. The hypnotist on television is a showman. He acts like he has magical powers that can bend people to his will. “Look deeply into my eyes, ” he says in an authoritative voice. “You are getting sleepy.” He puts the subject into a trance and then commands them to imitate a chicken on command.

Because of this, many people think hypnosis is primarily a tool for getting people to do what you want them to do and they fear it. For one thing, you can’t be hypnotized into going out and robbing a bank or anything else that is morally reprehensible to you. For another, the hypnotic trance is not a zombie like state. It is always within your power to “break the spell.”

What a real hypnotist does is put you into a receptive state of consciousness. A clinical hypnotist will guide you gently into exploring your subconscious mind and uncovering hidden emotional traumas that have been sabotaging your attempts at self improvement. Because these traumas are subconscious, you are not aware of them, yet they are affecting your life anyway.

There are an enormous number of personal issues that hypnosis can help you with. If you have trouble losing weight or stopping smoking, hypnotism can help. It can help you achieve a positive self image and confidence. A well made self-hypnosis or subliminal hypnosis program can help you achieve your goals without your having to go to a clinical hypnotist in person.

“Subliminal” refers to that twilight zone of consciousness between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. In this state, you remain conscious, yet able to access the subconscious mind and re-program it with healthy affirmations and positive beliefs.

An all-too-common negative belief is that somehow we don’t deserve to be happy. This belief is often planted into our subconscious at a young age, when we believe every word an authority figure speaks to us. Perhaps we did something wrong and are told that were “bad” and deserved to be punished. When we are young, we simply believe what we are told without question.

Even though you grow older and consciously look back on that event and understand that what was told to you wasn’t true, subconsciously, you still believe that you are a bad person and don’t deserve to be happy. Your subconscious mind will continue to “prove” to you that you don’t deserve to be happy.

Subliminal hypnosis can be used in two effective ways to help free you from your limiting beliefs. It can reveal the sources of those beliefs to you and allow you to release them. Then you can replace those negative beliefs with positive beliefs that will empower you to reach your goals.
